BJ Watling's Born, Early Days, Domestic Cricket

BJ Watling was born in 1985 in Durban, South Africa. From his early childhood, he loves the game cricket too much. 

In an interview, his mother said that when BJ Watling was 6 years old he started playing cricket. But their family went to New Zealand when little Watling was 10 years old. BJ Watling was not happy with this decision.

After that, he was admitted to Hamilton Boy's High School. Then he joins the school cricket and adapted the Kiwi cricket. His childhood coach Chris Kuggeleijn (Former New Zealand Cricketer) guided him in his early days.

Watling was selected for the first time in the Pakistan tour in 2009. Where he debut for the Test and T20I series. His performance was pretty good in his first test match cricket against Pakistan.

BJ Watling played his first test match in Pakistan in 2009. In his first test match, he played a pretty good role for his team. He opened the innings for New Zealand and scored 18 runs in 1st inning. In the second innings, he scored 60 runs and draw the test match.

In his first test match, he was not a wicketkeeper because Brendon McCullum was the permanent wicketkeeper at that time. 

After that, he played 75 test matches where he scored 3790 runs. He started playing as an opener for his team, but after that, he turned into a middle-order batsman. In the year 2019 against England, he scored the first-ever 200 runs in his carrier.

He was the only wicketkeeper of New Zealand with the most Test match catches(267). Also became the 7th highest in the world of test cricket.

One Day International Carrier of BJ Watling

If you take a look at his carrier you can see he counted as a great test match player and a wicketkeeper. But he didn't get more chances in ODI and T20I.

Watling got a pretty good start in his ODI carrier in 2010 against Srilanka. Where he scored 55 runs in his debut but New Zealand lost that match.

After that, he played 28 ODI matches but his batting average was 24.91. Then the Kiwi cricket selectors didn't show any interest to select him in the ODI squad.
